Ian McLaughlin

Senior Wealth Advisor

Ian has had a passion for investing since his youth and has amassed over 25 years of experience as a Wealth Advisor working at CIBC Wood Gundy and Merrill Lynch Canada before joining ScotiaMcleod in 2012. Ian joined ScotiaMcLeod due to its innovative approach to managing clients’ Total Wealth, which aligns with his goal of ensuring clients’ long-term financial well-being. As the team’s quarterback, Ian excels in building and maintaining client relationships, overseeing portfolio reviews with a focus on preserving and growing capital in a tax-efficient manner and leading a responsive team.

Kelly Lennon

Wealth Advisor

Kelly was previously employed at Scotia Wealth Management Private Banking, where he led one of the top private banking teams for seven years, focusing on structuring and implementing complex credit solutions for ultra-high-net-worth clients (more than $25 million). Kelly provides access to a comprehensive range of services to help build and protect his client’s wealth. Kelly’s approach is focused on being disciplined and seizing market opportunities as they arise. He advises on all matters, including business, investing, and family wealth decisions. Prior to his role in Private Banking, Kelly worked for Roynat Capital Inc. as an Analyst, Associate, Senior Associate, and Associate Director, where he focused on commercial credit in the mid-market focusing on M&A and Real Estate transactions. Kelly holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree.

Brian Hutchison

Senior Associate

Brian has been a Senior Associate on The McLaughlin Team since 2008 and is responsible for trading and preparing client reporting documents. Throughout his more than twenty-five years in the investment industry, Brian has gained a wide range of experience in different roles including retail banking, foreign exchange, and money market/fixed income. Brian has a Bachelor of Commerce, a Master of Business Administration degree, and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.

Marla McAlpine

Administrative Associate

Marla began her finance career in 2000 when she joined Ian at CIBC Wood Gundy. Client service is Marla’s biggest priority. Her positive attitude and determination in assisting families and business owners are instrumental to the unique experience clients enjoy at The McLaughlin Team. Marla leads our administrative hub, overseeing tasks ranging from tax planning to day-to-day financial services. Marla graduated from the University of Windsor with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and has completed the Canadian Securities Course.

Madelaine Mayberry

Administrative Associate

In 2019, Maddie became a member of the team after working as a Customer Service Representative for Scotiabank in Bracebridge. Her day-to-day duties include transferring client funds, updating account information, facilitating international wire transfers, purchasing foreign currency and scheduling meetings. Maddie also assists with our internal controls, compliance matters and onboarding new accounts. Maddie graduated in 2019 from Wilfrid Laurier University with a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies.

Sourja Dam

Investment Associate

Sourja joined The McLaughlin Team in 2022 after completing the Wealth Management Associate Program, where he focused on developing core financial planning, business development, and client discovery skills. In his current role, Sourja applies this knowledge to help clients develop their total wealth plans in collaboration with our team of Wealth Specialists.

Before joining Scotia Wealth Management, Sourja held multiple financial advisory positions and delivered tailored solutions to clients within banking, investments, and credit.

Sourja holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Mumbai and diplomas in financial planning, finance, and marketing. He is currently working on earning his Chartered Financial Analyst and Chartered Investment Manager designations.

Fiona Zhao, CLU

Insurance Consultant

Beyond that protection, Fiona will help optimize your wealth by recommending strategies that will allow you to enhance the wealth you distribute to your family. Whether you are an affluent investor looking to incorporate more tax-efficient investment options into your asset mix, a business owner who requires liquidity to effectively transition your assets and manage competing interests, or simply focused on leaving as much wealth and legacy as efficiently as possible, Fiona can demonstrate how life insurance can help.

While insurance is often overlooked, its benefits are compelling, and leveraging its versatility, Fiona will assess how a well-structured solution can be integrated into your personalized Total Wealth Plan.

Fiona has empowered advisors and their clients since 2005 and joined Scotia Wealth Management in 2019. In the past, she has worked for prominent insurance companies as a regional sales director. Fiona measures her success by how well she supports the value that advisors offer clients. She believes that the foundation of her work is the quality of her relationships. Fiona received a degree in Finance from Peking University and a diploma in Business Administration and Management from Laurentian University. She holds a Charted Life Underwriter (CLU) designation and is Life Licensed in the Province of Ontario.
